Fostering The Love For Reading
Reading and Literacy Tips May 16th, 2007
I caught my daughter reading to the baby the other night. I was so happy coz’ it was a small affirmation that I was doing something right. I try to read to my children every day. But I admit that sometimes “things” crop up and the reading together opportunity slips away. Well, I’m glad that baby won’t run out of people reading to him. If I’m not available, jie-jie (big sister) is ready to fill in for me. This is a good thing. Not only will baby get his daily reading, jie-jie get’s to practice her reading too.
Sometimes, Koko (big brother) also reads to baby. Well… he can’t read yet but he opens the book and tells the story. Just goes to show that fostering the love of reading in a child may first begin at a parent-child level. But then, sibling-to-sibling can also play a part.

I love books..and I started reading to my baby in my womb. NOw she’s gonna be 10 mths old…however she doesn’t seems to able to sit still for books just yet…whenever i read to her..she would look away or snatch the book away for a bite instead of flipping it…any suggestions for me?
