Time Management Tips For WAHMs

What You Need To Know To Become A Work At Home Mom

One of the biggest challenges of being a WAHM is time management. Sometimes it feels like 24 hours is not enough in a day. There are children to care for, laundry to do, floors to be vacuumed, mess to pick up, groceries to buy, meals to cook, dishes to wash,  etc…. Oh, and then there’s that business to work!

It may not be easy, but it isn’t impossible, either. By using some simple time management tricks, a WAHM can find time to “get it all done!”

SCHEDULE YOUR TIME

One thing every WAHM should have is a planner. Schedule your family time first! Then schedule in the time you are going to work your business. Once you have your “work time” scheduled, make it a priority to stay focused on your business during those hours. It is very easy to procrastinate when you are a WAHM.

If your work requires you to do lots of different tasks, try to group similar tasks together. For instance, if you are in a direct sales business and you have a team under you, designate one day to be your “training day”. Instead of helping various team members throughout the week, schedule all of your mentoring sessions for one day. Set aside an hour in the morning and an hour in the late afternoon to respond to email and/or return phone calls. By scheduling that time in, you will find that you are able to get more work done and feel less scattered.

OUTSOURCE

You might also consider outsourcing some of your activities. If you find that you are spending too much time on responding to email, returning phone calls, or updating your website, hire a virtual assistant to do those tasks for you. This will free your time up to work on your business, and by spending more time on the parts of your business that actually bring in money, you will be able to increase your profits.

PLAN YOUR MEALS

You can also save time by setting aside a block of time each week to do your “regular” errands, such as grocery shopping. If you plan your meals for the week and go to the grocery store once, you will save lots of time during the week by not taking those daily “quick trips to the market”. And while you are planning your meals, try to schedule a few “cook once, eat twice” days. For instance, you can plan on having spaghetti on Monday and tacos on Tuesday. So, on Monday, brown the hamburger you will need for both days. On Tuesday, half of your work will already be done. And if you are making a meatloaf or lasagna, make two and freeze one for later.

Here are 2 good resources that will ease some of your headache:

  • Meal Planning Made Simple
Stop getting frazzled every time lunch and dinner comes around. This will help get you planning your meals for each day of the week. Meal preparations become a breeze because you have a plan and are organized.
  • Crockpot Cooking Made Simple
Free up some time by letting the crockpot do the cooking for you. With almost 500 recipes, say hello to hassle free cooking.

DELEGATE

Most importantly, do not feel as if you have to do it all by yourself. You are not a super hero. If you have a spouse or significant other, ask them to chip in on household chores. Children love to help out, and depending on their ages, there are multiple things they can do.

TAKE A BREAK

And when it is all said and done, don’t forget to take out some time for yourself. Everyone needs a break– WAHMs included!

4 Tips To Achieving Success As A WAHM

Work From Home 9 Comments »

Lots of moms are considering becoming a work at home mom (WAHM). Earning an income while still being home with the kids is a dream come true, isn’t it? It sounds like a wonderful idea but make no mistake, it still requires lots of work and you may not realize this when you first start out.  Experienced and successful WAHMs will tell you it is not always easy.  The road you encounter may be rough, so here are 4 tips to keep you going.

1. TAKE NECESSARY BREAKS

There will be days when you feel like giving up. Don’t give in to those feelings. Success is not found overnight. You are going to have to put in a lot of time and effort when it comes to building your business, but you can do it. It is ok to take a “mental health day” once in a while, but when that day is over, you need to get up and start working again.

2. WRITE DOWN YOUR MOTIVATION

Stay motivated by hanging up pictures of your kids near your computer or phone and writing down what you want to accomplish by working at home. Maybe you want to pay off credit card debt or save for retirement or buy the kids a pool. Whenever you feel discouraged – read what you wrote down or look at the pictures of your kids. It will inspire you to keep working!

3. FIND A MENTOR

Try to find a mentor – someone who has already found success in the work at home field you have chosen. They know exactly what you are going through and can offer advice when you ‘get stuck’ on something. They can also help keep you accountable when it comes to your goals.

4. WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS

If you haven’t taken the time to write down your goals, take the time now. By having your goals written down on paper you will have a clear definition of what you want. Once you have them on paper, take a closer look at each one and write down specific action steps you can take now to achieve them. For instance, if your goal is to build a website, what are three things you can do today to accomplish that? Keep looking forward toward your goals and you will find yourself achieving success!

    Home Business For Moms: Ebay

Work From Home 1 Comment »

These days, you don’t need a brick and mortar shop to sell stuff. You can start an online home business selling items on eBay.

    What to sell?

    • Look around your house. I’m sure you’ll find stuff that you are no longer using. We usually have more stuff than we actually need or use. Don’t let them sit in your closet or collect dust in a forgotten corner of your house. Turn them to cash. Children’s clothes and toys are a good examples of items you can sell when your children have outgrown them.
    • Have a knack for being crafty? Sell your crafts.

Another idea is to assist others who want to build an eBay business but are not computer literate or don’t have time to list their auctions. You can offer up your services as an “auction specialist”. For a small fee plus a percentage of each sale, you can take pictures of items other people want to sell on eBay, post the auctions and take care of shipping the item to the buyer.
